Muscat is the table wine of Chile. As a varietal it is a common grape with a tense past among the countries of Chile and Peru. The grape was originally used to make Peruvian brandy that was exported as Pisco. Chile began producing Pisco competing fiercely with the Peruvians; they even claimed it as their own creation! The economic battle lasted for years. Muscat is also used in Metaxa. You can enjoy this varietal for less than $2.60 per bottle!
